The Style Guide
How to find your home style? there is no receipt for this. From my practice, I see that people want to look and compare, eliminate what they don’t like and single out the features they accept.
Pinterest is good for finding inspiration, TV programmes about home design and home stores too. But this post is not about where to find your home style. This post starts the series of The Style Guide with the fashion brand inspirations.
Iconic fashion brands can show you, or remind you, what you like. Overall, creating your home design is like creating your personal style.
In this guide, I am presenting what and why to follow to recreate a similar look and feel.
If you don’t see any connection between the fashion world and your home design, let me explain it.
The connection between fashion design and interior design
the commercial interior design translates the visuals of the brand into materials, colour palettes and overall aesthetics of the brand. And let’s not forget – fashion brands, especially iconic brands are the results of years of the creative process of nailing this special and unforgettable look.
The creative process of fashion designers and interior designers is similar – starting from the inspiration to the final look. It takes a team to define who and why will use it – wear it or live it.
Fashion brands, especially these established, as they say iconic, hold strong visual identity. No matter what season and current trend, they are easily recognisable.
Bespoke design
The commercial design is a bespoke design to host products and customers. Obviously, products must be easily and attractively presented but customers must be drawn by the look and feel of the shop too.
Shop design = home design?
Very often (Chanel stores) commercial interiors are designed to have a homely look and feel. It is created to make customers feel at home, and give them a comfortable environment to shop and relax at the same time.
So in fact, architects, and interior designers re-create the home style in the commercial interior with all elements characteristic of the home design like sofas, lamps, mantle pieces etc.
Design – fashion and interiors is a very personal matter
In most cases, each fashion brand is created based on a vision of an individual, a creative person who had its taste, and aesthetics. And very often fashion designers go beyond conventional and standard aesthetics.
Just like the second fashion case study I wanted to show you – Dolce and Gabbana will encourage you to use strong colours and patterns in the space.
So, you can find some classic styles (like Chanel) and some more extravagant (Dolce & Gabbana) interiors for different personalities and styles.
And these two brands I have mentioned above are my first two chapters of The Style Guide series. I have more ideas, but I would like to hear from you what would be interesting for you and what fashion brands you would like me to present.
